William Hessian I find our modern culture infectious and entrapping; in a bitterly ironic way. In my paintings I am responding to the diverse situations and problems I, and the people around me, have to deal with. At the same time I try to embrace, and not overlook, the hidden beauty that runs parallel with all the problems. The Icon paintings on display in Jilly are a portion of a series that will eventually total twenty five canvases. Beyond the Icon series I am focusing on; learning to paint with the airbrush, being an active board member of SLP Friends of the Arts, and working on small film projects. Including a renewed devotion to pen and ink illustrations stemming from my recent trip to Ireland. John Ennenga With the exception to the painting “free” and “head south” all of these paintings were completed in this past year. During this time I became interested in the design and or the form of totem art. After some research and looking at a lot of different pictures of the art, I began to draw and paint in that style or try to. Maybe it was the summer or the nature around the Winona area, but after awhile many ideas arose, and this was the result. I tried to keep the overall feel the same in these paintings, I think it all works together. Another goal was to paint with really crisp and sleek lines. I guess I wanted to make every painting bold and something I could keep looking at. Overall I am pleased with my work and look forward to what the next series of work will look like. I also think my style has become stronger in the process of doing these paintings. It’s all in fun though. |
